Good news #FALLWRITINGFRENZY 2020 CONTEST

Thank you to the fabulous Lydia Lukidis and Kaitlyn Sanchez for hosting their annual Fall Writing Frenzy Contest

There were 354 amazing entries and over 36 prizes. Not only did we have fun entering the contest, but Kaitlyn is giving all of us a chance to discuss and analyze the winning pieces. Thank you to Lynne Marie, The Picture Book Mechanic for my critique prize.

This week the discussion involves five selections:

Skeleton’s Change of Heart -(sung to the tune of the Pina Colada song) by Liz Kehrli. Skeleton’s tired of his old life and is making a change. A favorite line from Liz’s song–“I’m just very committed to change each scream to a laugh!” The rhythms and rhyme flow.

A RED LEGEND by Carrie Karnes-Fannin is a love story with the most beautiful lyrical language and wordplay. Favorite lines–On a new moon night in an ancient wood, Rose, a red shadow of a girl, slipped between trees + When morning was still a rumor…

CINDERFELLA THE SCULPTOR by Dana Miroballi is a charming retelling of the traditional Cinderella fairy tale. Dana’s version is about a cinder block maker who sculpts in secret. When the princess announces a contest, Cinderfella wants to compete and gets help from his fairy godmother. With a diamond chisel he creates, but must be home by midnight.

NO BONES ABOUT IT By Laurie Carmody tells a “humerus” infomercial about skeletons needing skin. The puns will tickle your funny bone! “Are you bummed about having no bum? “

My entry can be found here. Congratulations to all who entered and the winners! Metaphors be with you.
